I’m writing this from Malta where I’m thrilled to be participating in the second annual Mediterrane Film Festival, a gathering of global entertainment leaders discussing emerging storytelling trends and the immersive technologies driving them.

I’ll be speaking on a panel this Thursday titled, “Navigating the Next Spatial Frontier of Storytelling: VR, AR, MR, and Spatial Computing.” With the recent advances in spatial computing and headsets, this is an important time to discuss new possibilities to engage audiences as the industry continues to face a range of challenges and consumers continue to show that they want participatory entertainment.

Wevr will also be showcasing our original series The Blu, an immersive, interactive simulation of the oceans, at the Festival. The location for this talk and the showing of The Blu is fitting as the Mediterranean Sea was a key inspiration behind The Blu. Malta is also increasingly becoming a hub for video game development and film production.

As we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of The Blu and of Wevr’s work in XR, this opportunity, the topic and the timing is particularly poignant for us. The Blu remains a seminal example of the power of immersive technologies to inspire, to educate and to entertain.
